diff. between crystalline and amorphous
CRYSTALLINE SOLID
- They have definite geometric shape
- They have sharp melting point
- They are anisotropic.
- They are true solids
- They have definite heats of fusion
- they undergo a clean cleavage.
AMORPHOUS SOLID
- They have irregular shape
- They melt over a range of temperature
- they are isotropic
- they do not have definite heats of fusion.
- they are pseudo solids or supercooled liquids.
- they undergo an irregular cut
USE OF AMORPHOUS SOLID
- A large no. of plastic which are amorphous solid are being used in article of everyday life
- Another well know amorphous solid is rubber which is used in making tyres .shoe soles etc.
CLASSIFICATION OF CRYSTALLINE SOLIDS
- Ionic solid
- molecular solid
- covalent solid or network solid
- metallic solid
